tuesday, kahuku clinic, routine 36 week check up
my midwife asks if i want to be "checked" umm, sure i guess.

midwife: "oh wow! do you have your hospital bag packed?"
me: "what?"
midwife: "your dilated to a 4, i can feel your baby's head, and your bag of waters is bulging.  your going to have this baby any day..."

not quite what i was planning on hearing.  not quite what i was ready to hear.

and then she proceeded to give me the "how to deliver a baby in your car" pep talk.
really not what i wanted to hear.
so here i sit.  and sit i am.  i have put myself into lazy mode as to not bring on labor too soon.  most nearing the end pregnant people would be happy to hear that their baby is going to come early, but it kinda sorta freaked me out.  for a few reasons:
- i have had a really easy/fun pregnancy, i feel like i have sort of ignored the fact that i am pregnant in many ways and so the sudden realization that it's almost over and i am going to go into labor, well, that scares me a bit.
-the fact that i am already at a 4 and the hospital is an hour away- and it's a slow windy road with lots of tourists who drive 30 miles an hour enjoying the views.
-if the drive is too long, i really don't want to deliver under the banyon tree next to the hygienic store like i have joked about.  don't want to do it.
-our house is not done.  whatever, no big deal. but at the same time, we are going to be pulling up all our smelly nasty carpet and putting in wood floors in the next week.  which is going to turn things upside down a bit.
-life is so easy with my two girlies.  we have it good.  we play, we do our thing and i am nervous how a newborn is going to change things.
all that being said:
i am excited.  happy to have a new little one join us.  and the sooner the better right?  i love the baby smell, the baby snuggles, and the general excitement and love that having a new baby around brings. i know that the three other moffats who live here are excited to meet and play with her.  and, i got us out of giving talks in sacrament meeting this sunday saying that there is a chance i may be in the hospital.

so, now that i am a ticking time bomb, i am trying to get myself in the right mindset.  trying to visualize how everything is going to work out- turing my nervous thoughts into positive ones.  wish me luck.

Wow, good luck!!! Hopefully you make it to the hospital in plenty of time - maybe you'll go into labor in the middle of the night so there won't be so much traffic?? You'll make it work - enjoy the new little one!!

you are going to do great. and you will get into the swing of things with a new baby in no time. you are a very easy going person and it will all work out just swell. and of course, you can call me for any help you need.

can't wait to cuddle the babe.
and lovely lovely photos.
how cool would that be to deliver under a banyan tree??
haha, just kidding.

Reading this made me want to get Olivia and cuddle her. But I wont :) The truth of the matter is that it will be crazy whenever she comes. It will shake everything up, but only temporarily...right? Ha ha. The pic's are beautiful!

And my dr. said I was a 3 for 3 weeks. Don't know if that helps anything.

Totally understand the mixed feelings. I'd be doing the same thing as you...keeping low so the little one doesn't come before you've got everything squared away. And who wants to have a baby in a car? That's one reason the doctors will schedule inductions for me...once my water breaks the baby is out. Good luck. Can't wait to hear when she arrives. Look, she's already done you a HUGE favor and got you out of a talk. If that's not love I don't know what is!

I'm so sad yo're going private and that you already have maxed out your e-mail lsit. dang it. I'm going to so miss reading your blog.

Maybe you should create an e-mail account with an easy password and hand it out to those who weren't able to get on your list and we can all share the same account. I guess that totally defeats the purpose of going private though, right if you have tons of people reading your blog.

Anyway, send me a pic of the new baby girl.

oh my goodness! only YOU! God loves you. Now go enjoy the last few days with this sweetie inside you, but know, even though there are a few more challenges when she is live and in person, it is soooooo much better than her inside. It is the best feeling knowing this new little person has just been waiting to come join your fun- and i have no doubt there is a long line in heaven to come to the Moffat home- heck I would be in that line!!! You'll be in my prayers- cause car births just don't sound all that great.

I'm wicked bummed you're going private, but I can understand why. It's got to be odd to have a bunch of weirdo strangers reading your blog (I would be one since I've never met you). Thanks for sharing your blog for this long. It's been awesome to look at pictures of sunny beaches and happy faces when it's snowing and miserable here in utard. Good luck with your new little one!

Those pics are amazing!

Lauren was telling me bout this yesterday, and we were both horrified for you at the thought of delivering in the car.

Good luck with everything, I'm sure it'll all turn out fine.

Good luck. I'm sure it'll be a breeze and no one ever regrets having a baby ( not that you will of course but just thinking about how easy it is with your babes now and how it will change soon). It always involves change and pretty soon the girls won't know the difference. Oh and both of mine were two weeks late and yes i was bulging and like 3cm dilated! Might still take a while. Your cervix never goes back to being like totally closed after already having a baby anyway.

Ughh it makes me sick that I will not be able to see your baby IN person!!!! :( Or be there to babysit the girls!

Okay know that that is over with, I am so happy that the newest moffat beauty is on her way! I can't wait to see pics, and hear what you named her. You will do awesome! Good luck!

Love the fact that you played the "I may be in the hospital having a baby" card to get out of giving sacrament talks! I may have to use that one (and when I say I, I mean Aubrey, of course).

And good luck with the delivery. I know how far that drive is to town...but it's a small price to pay for living in God's playground.

i love those pictures! if you haven't had your baby yet, don't forget to get one last preggo belly pic! it's always fun to see how big, or small in your case, you get at the very end! can't wait to see pictures and hear what you name her!

3 kids is a bit of a change but eventually it'll feel like she has always been there!

Is it just me or is labor more scary with each one? It's like the excitement of it all is gone and you KNOW how bad it hurts... but for the the 3rd was super easy because of the LONG drive. By the time I got to the hospital I was ready to push the baby out!! Hopefully you'll make it and have a fabulous super short labor! Can't wait to meet the newest member of the fam! GOOD LUCK!
