sweet sunday

back in june i gave up candy. there was no reason really, i just stopped eating it. and i don't really miss it. actually, when i see candy and people eating it all i can think of is the amount of sugar that they are eating (i see spoons of white sugar adding up in front of them) and how many calories i save by not eating it.
that being said- i eat sweets. cookies, cake, ice cream... yum. if it's in my house, it's in my belly though, so i try not to have that kind of stuff around. but, sundays are sweet days. starting last week, i have baked something every sunday (that is a whole 2 sundays i am talking about here. talk about tradition.) and it's good to share the wealth so that it is not in my fridge on monday. last week it was snickerdoodles. this morning the girls and i made a lemon poppy seed bundt cake. bundt. what a great word. it's so fun to say.
my lovely lemon-squeezing, sugar-spilling, fight-over-who-gets-to-pour-the-vanilla assistants:
i burnt the edges a bit- our oven apparently runs a little hot, but it was still good. i thought about taking a picture, just to show how good it looked, but my battery was flat out gone at that point.
so, i am looking for good recipes to try on sundays. i was thinking i want to make orange rolls, and some more bundt's just so i can say the word bundt. anyone have any good suggestions?

good timing! i just made a post about a good recipe, although it is not really anything liek a bundt cake. But you will most definitely enjoy it if you do decide to make it! :)

Love bundt. Especially after watching "my big fat greek wedding" ;)
We haven't been eating a lot of sugar either, and it feels good. Baby weight is coming off a little faster, though it's only been 2 weeks.
Love the tradition!! We should get together and cook, just for fun, and the kids can run around all kooky and we can give them more sugar to make it worse. can you tell it's midnight?

and although i am inspired by your no candy thing, i am kind of thinking swedish fish don't count as candy, cause they're called fish....so yeah....can't give them up. but im on board with the rest of it.

bundts are my favorite cakes to make. I have lots of recipes on my blog but The Food Librarian has even more. She did a whole series of "I like big Bundts" and it was awesome.

I have an orange scone recipe that's yummy, again it's on my blog. The Kitchen Corners one.

always had a bundt pan at home growing up...never had one since marriage. you make me think i NEED one.
oh, and i'm so there with you -- i never really eat candy. but baked goods - oi. problem is, it's not only a sunday thing. if i wanna bake, i do it, and it's not a good thing because i gotta eat it, too. know whatta mean?? so this year i'm trying to make it only a sunday thing...
but you, well, you can afford to eat anything in the world and you'd still look good.
and i'm not just sayin' that...

Yum! Snickerdoodle's are my fav. Good job with the candy Ash! I decided to try and give up chocolate this whole pregnancy. . . and I guess I failed after 2 weeks already because, and who would've ever guessed this, hot chocolate has chocolate in it! ha

what a great idea ash! maybe we'll have to adopt the same tradition!

No candy since June? Props to you girl! I am not really a candy person either, but for some reason these days I crave it! Must be in need of fruit or something but I'm just lazy:)
