mean people suck

our trip to the park this morning was great.  it was sunny and nice.  a friend brought otter pops.  another friend brought cookies and punch.  the cookies had happy faces on them.  around noon it was time to go home.  time to jump in the pool. time to cool off before naps.
but in velzy's words "some mean people broke the window of our truck and took moms bag and they were not nice!"
so, we extended our stay at the park to call our insurance, hang out with a cool police woman and make a report, make arrangements to get a new window, and get a little sunburned.
funny thing is, there was nothing of (monetary) value in my bag.  i had taken out my wallet, phone and keys.  all they got were some crackers, pens, a diaper, a few tampons and my lil notebook.  a tad sad about the notebook.
luckily i had just posted all the kids girls i had recently written down.  there were a few pages that i had scribbled on our bumpy trip the coast that i will miss.  there were some funny things written, like "i am not a fan of butt-country (all the stuff on the country radio station, sort of like butt-rock?).  the old hank williams and johnny cash is cool though." thank you, luke.  there were quite a few funny things that i will miss reading and the smile they would bring.  as well as all the ideas of things i wanted to make and funny little drawings.  oh well.
i must give myself a little pat on the back, i stayed cool when it happened. i like to think i have the ability to stay calm and think things out logically- which is handy when mean people do mean things or ivy falls off a bench onto a concrete kitchen floor and cracks her head open, or anything else that may come my way.
and now tonight, the day is done.  the window is replaced.  i have a new appreciation for sweet neighbors who pitch in to help when you need it.  the cool pool felt oh-so-good to jump in and wash off the day.  and i have renewed my belief in karma.
*and since i am a believer in karma, there is a giveaway on the good day sunshine blog that you might want to enter.  with only 4 comments so far, there is a good chance you could win yourself a free re-useable shopping bag!

So sorry Ash! It sounds like everything worked out though. I'm really glad that you locked your wallet in the glove box too!

Is Ivy ok??

that really, truly sucks. bumm-er. i had my lovely, new backpack in college sitting between my two fron seats during a shift at rosie's. come bozo picked the lock and stole it. there was NOTHING valuable to them. school books and stuff that they probably ended throwing in the bushes somewhere. and then doug got his front passenger window busted into at kawela bay, right smack in the middle of the day. his backpack (with his work laptop in it) was sitting pretty on the seat. got stolen. they got some goods then. so stupid. people that steal suck. i'm glad you were able to remain calm and collected. ;-)
and is that what happened to ivy's head in her birthday pics?

so sad to hear about the loss for your stuff. it is always worse when they take things like the notebook with doodles and random thoughts. here is a crazy story for you though. same thing happened to my aunt. about an hour after she made the police report she was driving to run some errands or something and got an uncontrollable need to pee. so she pulled over at the neighborhood park, a place she would never go she is a neat freak, and walked in. guess what was sitting in the stall? her purse!! her cash and tampons were gone. everything else left untouched even credit cards! crazy huh!

I'm so sorry...that really does put a damper on an otherwise great day. The same thing happened when I was in Nantucket. I left my backpack in the car and someone broke in and stole it...nothing of much $ value, but I felt like I lost something with a ton of value...my journal. Stupid mean people stink!

Happy everything was almost put back by the end of the day. Sorry about your notepad. I feel for you!

OH man, I am sorry to hear that. It sounds like you handled it really smooth. You didn't let it ruin your day. That is awesome in itself. I love that your daughter's name is Velzy. I also loved the strawberry pics.
