old habits die hard

velzy has this thing with hair.  it's what she self-soothes with, has since she was a baby.  she would play with my hair that hung down as she nursed, when she was tired or hurt she would twirl my hair, and there were a few car rides (she has always hated the car) that i had to sit next to her to let her play with my hair to get her to calm down.  it wasn't limited to me either, she would play with luke's, the people sitting in front of us on airplanes or at church, basically anyone who was holding her (except brynn) would usually have their hair played with at least a little.  oh, and her favorite thing to do when she didn't get her way with friends was to take a handful and tug.  when her own hair got long enough she started playing with it as well.  and when she went to sleep she always had a pacifier in her mouth and a hand by her head.
proof here, not even 2 months with a death grip on my hair:
lately though, she has really stepped the twisting up a notch.  she twists her hair around her finger till it is pretty tight then pulls her finger out- making knots just like the ones you make when you are tying the end of embroidery floss.  when she can't get the knots out she just pulls them out.  it's gross and looks painful, but i think she is so used to it that her scalp is pretty tough.  there is always a ton of hair on her pillow and sheets, i swear that her hair would be twice as thick if she didn't play with it so much.
her latest thing has been to ask me to roll her window down while in the car.  which i do, then she throws something out the window. when i ask her what it was she tells me it was a knot.  so friday when we came home from the beach i noticed two huge clumps of hair on her carseat.  it was nasty, and looked like it was at least an eighth of the hair that was on her head.  have i ever mentioned how much i hate hair? grosses me out, yuck.  anyways, that night when she started twirling her hair as we were reading a bed time story we stopped mid-sentence and she got a hair cut.
i present the velzy-bob:
problem solved?

the velzy bob is very cute! i especially like the picture where she's picking her nose. haha!!

i HATE hair too, especially unattached hair. i've been learning to come to terms with it lately, but i saw a clump by my front door the other day, and I felt like I was going to vomit.

She looks so cute. I hope that works. Kali's thing is she likes to feel what we call "silkies" my garments, she rubs them between her fingers to fall asleep. I have been trying to get her to stop rubbing mine while I am wearing them, so lately she will just pull them out of my drawers and carry them around the house. AAAAUUUGGGGG! I guess I just need to go buy a different kind and that would probably solve that problem. I have a few cotton ones and when I wear them she freaks out:) I have even tried the silky blanket thing, doesn't work.

oh my gosh, ash, i just saw your poll and i was about to make the same thing -- the beaches i was thinking of: kekela, castles, turtle bay, or sunset. pret-ty freaky...or it could just be that great minds think alike...i prefer the latter...;-)

tee hee...my mom tried the shorter cuts with me too, still found little places to twist and knot.
i still do it.
oh i could teach her good tricks! lol
i have a better way to tie my knots without making knots. the coolest is she'll be able to braid her hair with one hand. it's awesome.
cracks me up!

Hair twirling problem solved, I hope so. Now you just need to work on the nose picking. So funny! I love how shameless little kids are!

So funny! I hate hair too, I have always gotten grossed out by it when it would fall off and get on me in the bath. You did a cute job on her little bob!

I love the bob...and the finger up the nose! Hope the new hair cut helps curb the twirling of her hair. I totally remember her being a hair girl. I always thought it was cute, but I guess when it gets to the point where she's pulling hair out in chunks there's got to be an intervention.
