accidents happen

that is what elmo sings in his potty time video. and i am well aware of this fact, i mean we have one daily it seems, and that is alright. it seems that i am the one who is trained and i just have to prompt her to go because most of the time she is to into whatever she is doing to stop to go to the bathroom. i am figuring that that is just how it will go for a while till she gets the hang of things better- is that right?
so when velzy had an accident at the beginning church today i was a little embarrassed, but realized that she had had a lot to drink before we left so it was understandable- even though she went before we left. after betsy helped velzy and i cleaned up the mess we walked home, she naked and i a little frustrated, to change.
five minutes later back at church she was sitting on my lap reading a book when i noticed that there was this little warm feeling on my lap, only to look down and see a little yellow stream running down velzy's leg. NO- this can't be happening, i thought. but oh, it was, so i sat there quietly saying "stop, stop, stop" until she stopped and ever so graciously (as luke puts it) took velzy and went home, the second time, leaving a puddle on my chair. how embarrassing.
needless to say when we came back- after showering- she had a diaper on.
thank you velzy.

I love the pictures on the last post. Where is the aligator place? Those are really cute pictures though.
And sad, sad church story. But really pretty funny. The things we do as mothers & still love the little rugrats.
I forgot to tell you that I think earthquakes are cool too! I wasn't scared at all. Just enjoyed the tremble. I might have been a little nervous though if things were coming off the walls.
AND we got your cute, cute package yesterday & love it! Thanks!

oh ash that's awful! here's one little thing we tell parents at work--if you're not already, have her involved in the clean up after the accidents. she can rinse out underwear in the toilet, put it in the laundry herself, etc. the work makes it more aversive to them to have an accident so they're more likely not to.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhaah i love two year olds. poor girl! and poor u i guess too lol ya potty training was the toughest and most frustrating thing i have had to conquer as a parent (how sad is that). its really tuff. after a YEAR of trying on and off, right after jack turned three i tried again and all the sudden he did it. it was a miracle. guess he had to do it on his own watch. grrrrrr

I can't believe you went back to church after the last accident! I would have called it quits after the shower I think! LOL...I guess I have a lot of fun stuff to look forward to in this next year with Mia huh?

the best is her walking home naked!! LOVE IT!

Yeah, accidents happen. Lauren just peed on my conforter Sat night after going ALL DAY in the potty.

Old habbits die hard.

I haven't tried panties at church yet, and you've just helped me remember why.

You're AWESOME! And Velzy is just the greatest! What great memories you'll have to share with her when she's a mama!

funny--i remember not wanting to give oshyn lots of drinks b/c then he'd have to go...i got it down to a timing of 20 min. if he drank something, 20 min. later he'd have to go--crazy i know but it kept me kind of on top of it. it will only get better!

I am not looking forward to that! She sounds like she is doing pretty good though. I have heard that when they are really into what they are doing they forget they are potty trained and just go. Yikes! With as often as you guys go to the beach though, the accidents won't matter. Let the sand take care of it right? Good luck, hang in there!

ok...this is probably not a laughing matter but that's pretty funny. I think I would have been so frustrated too though.
I love the pictures of your beach day. I am glad someone had fun on Thursday. My Thursday consisted of checking girls in and out of the dorms from 8am to 12midnight. Ugh! I am sooo over the dorms right now… I just want to get out of this Hale as much as possible; it’s starting to drive me crazy. 1year is enough of this place.

ahhh, yes the trying times of potty training...can't say i've had your luck, not to quite that extent, anyway, but i am very afraid of training my son. i hear boys are harder, i am s-l-o-w-l-y easing into it. it'll pass, she'll get it. and when she does, you'll still have to remind her, especially when they get so into what they are doing, they get lazy and don't want to get up and go in the toilet. but, go mommy!!!

Sounds like a good Sunday...I think that's part of the reason I haven't started REALLY any sort of potty training with Ella. You have to always remind them to go to the bathroom...and my memory isn't the greatest lately. And, like you've shown, even when you do remind them and take them to the bathroom, they still have accidents. OH, the beauty of potty training! I'm sure Velzy will have it down sooner rather than later...but in the meantime, goodluck. Let me know if there are any magic secrets to potty training...

cheers to us!

Potty Training Doesn't Have to Be a Pain!

Potty training doesn't have to be a frustrating experience for either you or your child. Listed below are some quick guidelines:

Little children copy what they see their parents doing. That’s why it's so important to let your tots see you using the potty…and having a good time doing so. (While this may be a bit embarrassing for some, the results are well worth the discomfort.)

Offer lots of choices. For example, "Do you want to use the upstairs potty or downstairs potty?" "Do you want to bring your favorite toy or leave it in your room?" The more small choices we give, the less resistant our kids will be.

Remain calm and empathetic when accidents happen. Punishment never works when it comes to potty training.

Allow your child to train at their own pace. Some kids are ready before they are two years old; others aren't ready until they are around four. When we try to force the issue before our children are ready, frustration is all we will achieve.

This is from an article I read from this Love and Logic guy. I have liked everything they tell us about parenting so I thought I would share this too!
