happiness

sometimes when i have a lot to blog about i don't blog at all.  which is the case right now.  i just feel like i can't get it all down from my brain to my fingers or type it all like i feel it, so i don't even try.

sunday at church we had a great lesson taken from Elder Uchdorf's talk Happiness, Your Heritage from the relief society session of conference.  since i didn't watch that session- i think the waves were good- i really enjoyed the lesson and had to come home and print it out.  since then i have read over it a few times (when i find a conference talk i like i have a tendency to obsess over it) and keep finding more things i like about it.  i think the thing i like about this talk is how he talks about how important it is to create and have compassion- two characteristic of our heavenly father.  he talks about how important it is to create things- or "to bring into existence something that did not exist before- colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter."  and i love how he said that "as we lose ourselves in the service of others, we discover out own lives and our own happiness."  if you have a minute, go read this talk, it is full of nuggets of wisdom to make you happy.

and speaking of creating- i have been meaning to post my mom's cupcake creations (inspired by this book).  she is kind of creative:

brown lab, beagle, dalmatian.  she's amazing.
these are from a little little b-day party for velzy when we in california at the beach club.  and of course there more balloons to run around with, more grandparents to spoil her, more hot dogs and hamburgers, more fun.  slowly, i am getting caifornia pictures into posts here...

and i wish i could combine these two pictures of velz and kaia- because it would be the cutest thing ever. ever.ah, taking pictures of toddlers...

love those blinking pictures, too. i didn't watch the relief society session, but i have heard great raves about his talk, so you have finally inspired me to look things up. i tend to see the negative things in my life, and then when i see someone with bigger problems, mine feel insignificant...i will read and hopefully apply.

Looks like we'll be going to Cali in a couple weeks. Our timing is all wrong.

Your pictures are all adorable and I am impressed by how creative you are. I love that quilt you are making and the mermaid backpack is adorable. I love mermaids too. I am not sure how far Redlands is but hopefully close enough that we can all get together and go to the beach sometime:)
